Vocational Education Building
Gainesville State School
Gainesville, Texas

The purpose of this facility is to provide vocational skills training for young people held at the Texas Youth Commission's Gainesville campus.  The two-phase project contains a 9,164 square foot shop building for training in automobile bodywork, automobile repair, building trades, and welding.  The second-phase classroom building contains 3,580 square feet and provides training in office skills. The buildings are sited within the contours of the hillside with the shop building oriented to receive the predominant southeasterly breezes.  Architecturally, the classroom building serves as a visual counterpoint to the shop building.  A courtyard between the two structures offers opportunities for supervised social interaction between class periods.
